Alma Johns - President
Alma Johns founded Bench Capital Advisory in 2014. She manages M&A transactions and creatively structures financing proposals for various companies in the manufacturing, aerospace, biotech, medical device, food distribution, and telecommunications sectors.
As corporate banker at MUFG, she managed the accounts for multinational corporations and significantly increased the bank’s loan portfolio during her tenure. Most recently, she managed a total of $1.6 billion in credit facilities at RBC Royal Bank and mentored commercial markets managers on credit structures.
Alma has over 20 years of experience and a proven track record in evaluating businesses for institutional funding. She has published numerous articles on M&A, private equity, senior debt, management buyout, business strategy and infrastructure in PROFIT Guide, Canadian Business and Canadian Metalworking. Her passion is to help successful business owners maximize their valuation at “exit” and help ambitious entrepreneurs access capital to grow their businesses.
Rod Robertson - Senior Partner
Rod Robertson joined Bench Capital Advisory in 2018, bringing his wealth of experience and extensive global network to our M&A Advisory practice.
Rod has focused on maximizing value for sellers through a variety of innovative exit strategies around the globe. Rod enjoys positioning sellers to receive top dollar for their companies in a creative fashion that often goes well beyond the seller’s expectations. He has advised as a banker and acted as a principal in starting, growing and selling firms in eleven countries.
Rod brings over 20 years of transaction experience and entrepreneurial accomplishments to Bench Capital. During his career, Rod has served as the President and CEO of distribution, real estate, consumer products and software companies. Over the past fifteen years, he has successfully represented in more than 70 transactions where owners were seeking to sell or recapitalize their business, raise equity or divest subsidiaries
Houman Ghayouri - Senior Associate
Houman Ghayouri joined Bench Capital Advisory as a Senior Associate in 2018. Prior to this, he worked for eight years in corporate finance and operations management roles in the manufacturing and logistics industries with an exceptional quantitative background.
Houman has worked as an engineer in the automotive sector, including at Magna International. He is very passionate about M&A and investment banking and is relentlessly dedicated to helping customers maximize the value of their businesses at “exit.”
Houman earned a Mechanical Engineering degree in 2006 and an MBA in Finance from Schulich School of Business in 2017. He is currently a CFA Level II candidate.
David Gingera - Senior Associate
David Gingera joined Bench Capital Advisory as a Senior Associate in 2019. He helps clients achieve their strategic objectives through mergers and acquisitions. David enjoys working with mid-market companies and is committed to delivering financial advice tailored to the unique needs of business owners.
Previously, David worked with an independent financial advisory firm in Winnipeg where he advised on sell-side M&A transactions. He also has first-hand experience as an entrepreneur, having founded a sustainable agriculture start-up company.
David holds an MBA from Ivey Business School at Western University and is a CFA Level III candidate.
